Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA)
A novel new approach to correction of cranial cruciate ligamentous instabilities.
Similar to the TPLO, the concept is to advance the tibial tuberosity (or the attachment of the patellar ligament) in order to change the pull of the quadriceps musculature.
In changing the direction of pull of this powerful muscle, the need for the cruciate ligament is negated. The early reports indicate relatively good success similar to the TPLO. Complications include implant or bone failure, delayed bone healing, infection, or incisional complications. Overall most dogs do well in better than 90% of the cases.
