Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO)

The TPO is a procedure utilized in hip dysplastic canines to decrease the degree of subluxation or instability in the joint thereby decreasing the degree of degenerative joint disease progression.

The procedure involves cutting the pelvis in three locations with rotation of the hip socket (acetabulum) over the femoral head.

The rotated component of bone is stabilized with a specialized bone plate and screws.

Long term studies demonstrate decreased progression of osteoarthritis and good clinical function.

Primary complications include progression of osteoarthritis and implant loosening which generally are not substantial impacts clinically.
