Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis

JPS is a newer procedure performed in young dogs (less than 20 weeks of age) in which the pubic growth plate (floor of the pelvis) is fused surgically.

The result is natural lateral rotation of the pelvis during growth in an attempt to decrease hip joint laxity and subsequent degenerative joint disease.  It has gained in popularity as a result of being a fairly noninvasive procedure with minimal complications and requiring no implants.
